My

But it says 'MEN'!
Okay, it really is a recycle bin at a NC rest area on I-95.
Aurora Fossil Museum, Aurora, NC
Found out about this place on the web. Made a slight detour on the way down.
Very interesting place. They get loads of dirt from a local mine that have 10 - 20 million year old shark teeth and other fossils. Play in the dirt and keep what you find!

New Bern, North Carolina
Explored some of the City of New Bern.
Symbol is a bear and they had many painted bear statues around the city.
New Bern is the birth place of Pepsi. My favorite soda.

North Carolina Maritime Museum, Beaufort, NC
Saw a wild horse on an island in the harbor of Beaufort.
The museum has artifacts recovered from what is believed to be Black Beard's
Boat, the Queen Anne's Revenge.

Tornado Damage, Havelock, NC
Driving from Beaufort we saw a FEMA bus and looked around. We noticed a
tree twisted and broken...then the homes.
I find it hard to imagine the horror of living thru a tornado.
If anyone was home when this happened, I hope they survived and live a long
and happy life to tell their grandchildren about the day the tornado hit.
May 4, 2011 (Tornado hit Apr 16, 2011)
Goose Creek Paddle, Washington, NC
A very nice flat water paddle.
Calm water, warm temps, blue skies...what more could I ask for?

May 5, 2011
Goose Creek State Park, Washington, NC
After a nice paddle on the creek we took a short hike in the park.
Very marshy, many frogs, even an immature Bald Eagle.

Bayview to Aurora Free Ferry, Bayview (to Aurora), NC
Map said free ferry across the Pamlico River (instead of the long drive around).
We took a chance and sure enough, they let us ride and never asked for money.
Nice half hour on the water, not driving, and free.

Latham-Whitehurst Nature Park, New Bern, NC
Kept driving by the sign and thought we would have a look.
Very nice, very new (still under construction) park.
We saw it from kayaking the Broad Creek but didn't know it.
