“Leave only footprints, take only memories” (...and maybe some pictures)
June 8, 2014
11:30 am We slept late to recover from the 2½ days on the road.  After I woke I cleaned all the camera lenses and made sure they all have the right date and time.  We ate breakfast of Jimmy Dean sausage (or bacon) egg and cheese biscuits on our balcony overlooking Lake Hamilton.  While eating and relaxing we saw turtles in the lake surfacing to breathe and birds in the trees near our unit. Our first day in Arkansas is a rainy, thundery day. 4 pm We spent the day driving around the historic part of Hot Springs.  This area is unique in that the actual village is a national park.  We explored as much as we could without getting soaked by the rain. 4:50 pm We are just leaving Stubby’s Bar-B-Que Restaurant.  Stubby’s is located on the main drive in the newer section of Hot Springs.  The food is very, very good and inexpensive.  We really enjoyed it. 5:45 pm We parked on Central Avenue at the south end of the historic section of Hot Springs.  Started walking and investigating the area.  We found signs for “The Promenade”.  According the signs when people came to Hot Springs for the healing properties of the baths they actually only spent an hour or two at the bath houses.  Up the hill and behind the main bath houses a brick-paved walkway was created and the socialites would spend their spare time taking leisurely walks on the promenade.  The Promenade was decorated with many plantings of native and exotic plants. 6:45 pm Completed walking The Promenade from south to the north end and then walked the main street part of Bath House Row.  Each bath house has signs in front of the building explaining the history of each.  Very nice walk with lots of information.  We will be back. 7:20 pm Just left Scoops Homemade Ice Cream.  Very yummy ice cream.  Barbara had chunky cherry (cherry & chocolate chunks) and John had a cone with banana and blueberry cobbler.  All very good.  Now heading to the rental to watch the weather channel and plan our days.
