We went for a ride

Barbara and John want a little exercise so we go for a bike ride.  We had done some of the Dutchess Rail Trail before but it now crosses over the six lane road in Poughkeepsie. We parked in the back of the LaGrange Gold’s Gym (Rail Trail write ups all say this is legit parking) only to find we are parked next to a large bee nest (we reported it to the gym when we finished our ride) so we moved the truck before unloading the bikes.  A lot of parking near the Rail Trail. The trail is paved and a very easy ride.  The bridges are either new or well maintained.  There are some interesting signs about the area, trains (from before the trail) and the trail. Before the trail it was a train route. In some areas it shows.  There is one car salvage yard, a couple of swamps.  A measure of how the country and its people have changed... when the trains ran here swamps were to be avoided and filled in, now people stop to enjoy the view. We rode across the The Walkway Over the Hudson.  The bridge was pretty crowded so it was slow going in both directions.  For those that haven’t done the bridge there are some very nice views of the Hudson River and Poughkeepsie doesn’t look that bad from up there.  On the Highland side there were portable shops and we stopped for a lunch of soda and kettle corn.  I’m sure we expended at least that many calories riding 18.5 miles.  The guy that ran the place we bought from was feeding some feral cats.  Figures we would find that. Another very nice day together.  Good weather and a fun bike ride.
