Birding Pine Island, NY area - February 1, 2014
We read about some birds spending the winter in our general area of NY state. We headed out with cameras and binoculars. We met other people birding the same area and looking for the same birds we were looking for. The big attraction was Snowy Owls but we also saw Short-eared Owls and Rough-legged Hawks. We decided to go somewhere neither of us had been before. We ended up in Arkansas in the small city of Hot Springs. We had a very good time. The people are very friendly and there is a lot to do in the area. We went to a science museum, a botanical gardens, a diamond mine and a quartz mine. Brought home some quartz but no diamonds. Huckleberry Point Hike, Catskills, NY - July 25, 2014

Giant Ledge, Catskills, NY - August 16, 2014
Another pleasant hike in the woods. The trail is rough in places but well marked and worth the effort. Nice views at the ledge. Barbara & John
Dutchess Rail Trail - August 30, 2014
We went for a bike ride. We did part of the Trail that wasn’t complete the last time we biked the trail. Long, new bridges over major local roads meant we could reach the Walkway over the Hudson. Barbara & John

The rock hound (Barbara) has wanted to see this for awhile. We finally found the time and made it there. Very impressive HUGE piece of artwork. Barbara & John
Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, Adams, MA - September 20, 2014
A short bike ride with Laura. Very pretty area. Shared the trail with a group walk against Alzheimer’s. Lunch in Pittsfield at Panchos Mexican Restaurant. Laura, Carl, Barbara & John
Catskill Scenic Trail, Bloomville, NY - September 27, 2014
We found another very nice rail trail in NY. We really enjoy the trails. Mostly level an easy riding so you can enjoy more of the scenery. Barbara & John
Wallkill Rail Trail, Gardiner, NY - October 7, 2014
We rode the trail from Gardiner to Rosendale. A little rough in areas. Nice ride with the bonus of an ‘art show’ on the trail near Rosendale. Very strange. Bob & John
